Hello, Had pre diabetes for years, used to pour sugar on ice cream and had bread and butter with sugar on it as a toddler, is it a wonder that i have Type 2.
I also have cyclic depression and find that my diabetes is worse during these episodes, does anyone else get this this.
You sound a bit like me... I had so much sugar in my coffee, the spoon could stand up straight. My gran always said I'd turn into a sugar animal (a type of candy), and she ended up being right.
No cyclic depression, but have lived with depression for the bulk of my 46 years on this earth. Only recently has it gotten a lot better, and even then certain medications (oxycodon/tramadol for instance) or high blood sugars can trigger it again for a day, to up to a few weeks at a time. But, yes, high blood glucose can feed into depression, anxiety and other mood disorders. Just makes a bad thing worse, I guess. Often that ends up being a viscous circle: you feel bad, so you stop taking good care of yourself OR start comfort eating what you shouldn't, OR both, and the resulting high blood sugars make the depression worse, making you take less good care of yourself/comfort-eat/combo. Not always easy breaking that cycle, but well worth the effort. So yes, you're not imagining things, blood sugars can impact your mental well-being. (
