I’ve recently tipped across from borderline, to Type 2. I have been started on Metformin, but due to having sensitivities to many previous medications I have been prescribed the prolonged release tablets. I was under the impression that this was taken once a day...but the Diabetes Nurse has told me to take 1 x 500mg with evening meal for the first week then take 1 x 500mg with breakfast & evening meal the second weeK, building to 4 tablets a day, across the day. Can anyone please advise what they’ve been advised to do...before I query this with my practice. Many thanks

Hi. What you have been told should be fine. The SR version isn't critical on timing. Leaflets for Metformin vary and some say take all at the same time and other say split morning and evening. I think you will find it really doesn't make any difference as Metformin SR is a very tolerant med for most people!

there’s a lot of people on her who have gone into remission through lifestyle changes and either stopped taking meds or never took them. I’m not advising you to do either, but if you’re curious, then have a search through the board.
