I was diagnosed as a type2 in 2009 and after trying Metformin ( which made me really ill) and Gliclozide (which was great until I started gaining weight) I have now been put on Victoza. I was hoping people might be able to tell me how they've found it. I am into my second week and started the 1.2mg dose last Friday and it seems to be working great. Levels are coming down I tested 2 hrs after lunch today and was at 5.9 two weeks ago I was at 9.4....my appetite has all but vanished and i have to set an alarm to remind me to eat lunch when the kids are at school.....no side effects at all so far, i'm starting to think this maybe my wonder drug lol. I'd love to hear your experiences on this medication good or bad, and if you think the 1.8mg dose is worth taking as my nurse doesn't believe it makes much difference.

i was told 1.2mg was the max dose they would permit as the 1.8 made no difference (kinda wondered why they had a 1.8 level then), 1 year i was on victoza (1 daily injection) and initially it was great especially the weight loss, 3 stone in the first 9 months and my reads were although not great a lot better than prior to victoza but then came the crash for no reason (maybe lack of willpower) the weight flew back on and reads went haywire average of 16, last week i started an insulin regime and even though i feel rough i know it is for the best.
Anyway basically i found it initially very good for weight loss and a slight lowering of sugar levels but the effects did wear off for me, i feel if you can exercise and stay on a good diet it will work but i did not help myself at all times, another side effect for me was joint pain but that could have been the metformin and gliclazide i was on at the same time.
Good luck with it and a positive attitude does work wonders

Thanks for your reply astle9, things are still going well although the lack of appetite is starting to worry me a little....its not even that i'm not hungry but even my normal favourite foods are no longer enjoyable i feel like i'm forcing every mouthful down, i see my nurse again on the 19th so hopefully it will settle by then if not its probably worth a mention. good luck with the new insulin regime!!

Hi
I've just been put on Victoza just had my first shot yesterday and just wondered what other people with type 2 feel. I was diagnosed as a type2 in 2005 and am on Metformin SR 500mg 4tablets a day and Gliclozide SR 30mg 3 tablets a day but at my last 3 month check up I'd gone up from 9.0 to 9.9 average.

Cheers
