Hello all
What a great forum here very informative. Just trying t get my head around this type 2 diagnosis i got just after xmas by text can you imagine was very disappointing and has made me very anxious if not typically proactive which i am albeit late you may say lol. im 40 both parents type 2 diabetes but under control so i like to think that its not so simple to blame myself but its a multi factered scenario.

Anyhow best to focus on future and not past. Got shock still to hear i had it with hbac1 65/70. I suppose could be alot higher but had symptoms such as fatigue thirst and couldnt actually loose weight. Am trying so hard now to drop it asap. have cut pasta, refined carbs, suagr, chocolates, bread , processed foods ( i was big fan of breaded chicken in m n s little did i know) an eating low carb circa 70g a day with lots of eggs, chicken fish and broccoli. Surprised feeling much better last few weeks and more energy to do my daily walks which i now do. I have lost 15 kg in 9 weeks (124kg to 109 kg) so im hopeful i may be pre diabetic levels in few weeks at next hbac1 do you think its possible? i recently started kinda low cal diet too eating roughly 1000-1100 cals a day and its not too bad and im not so hungry. i earlier used exante meal replacements with a light meal in evening but am now eating more low carb food as i prefer it albeit still quite low cal.

However last few weeks i find my feet are cold nearly all the time except when in bed under duvet but even then i get sensations and generally feel more aware of my actual circulation in my legs, feet an arms but i could just be anxious here, its quite unnerving but im hoping it may be due to low cals, low carbs and lower metabolism combo and will resolve?anyone had similar issues or tips to address? i been to podiatrist twice and feet were fine re circulation and nerve/sensation tests and other stuff and earlier tingling i had and soreness seems to have mostly gone after i took supplements and my blood levels have dropped alot in last few weeks. I aware circulation and sensation are key with feet but its mostly a cold feeling on toes and soles at mo that are bothering me. im just hoping feet will clear up and otherwise i would be in good form. Any people had similar issues re feet or side effects from low carb/low cals diets?

i sometimes meter test and can get 5.2 to 6 often on waking and up to 5s and low 6s two hrs after eating which i think is progress? Any thoughts you may have from your expedience would be great as it feels like a year but its 9 weeks and i think im doing ok but happy to adapt on your much better and informed advice which i really appreciate. I already have blood request for full bloods ready to go but i think ill wait another three weeks before i do new hbac1 test?.

My Dr responds fast but its super hard doing things by email and never discussing anything in person. Generally feel fine but would love to sort my cold feet out as its making me anxious and i can crack on with low carb diet more exercise and trying to get hbac1 down asap.

Any thoughts? here people would be super. Thanks

I had all sorts of odd sensations as my bg dropped. The oddest was the feeling of water running down my leg, even though I was dry and clothed! All gone now,, thankfully.

Feet I just wear fluffy slippers and avoid cold floors.

This was just my experience.
I'm no expert and you might want to talk to your gp as I am in no way medically qualified

Hear all about from Professor Roy Taylor the 5 minute summary.

• Type 2 diabetes is a potentially reversible condition
• If a person has type 2 diabetes, they have become too heavy for their own body (nothing to do with the arbitrary concept of obesity)
• Weight loss of around 15kg is necessary for most people
• This can be achieved using a simple 3-step method: the 1, 2, 3 of diabetes reversal
• Type 2 diabetes is most easily reversed to normal in the early years after diagnosis
• How and why type 2 diabetes happens can now be understood

Read Richard Doughty's personal story Type 2 diabetes and the diet that cured me on the Guardian website, including a video interview of another personal story. You can also read an update from Richard, I reversed my diabetes in just 11 days, on the Mail Online.

Hi @Woolpaul and welcome. You’ve made a fantastic start. Diagnosis by text though, That must have been a real shock!
It’s good to hear your circulation and nerve sensation are ok.
I would imagine the coldness might be due to your very low cal diet. I used to feel cold all the time when I was on Calorie controlled diets. It might be a good idea to just concentrate on carbs and not worry about cals for a while. It’s sometimes quite hard to manage both and you don’t seem to be eating much fat. I’d try and up the ‘good’ fat intake ( fatty meat, butter, coconut/ olive oil, avocados, nuts etc)
Good luck with your next HbA1c test, I’m sure it’ll be greatly improved.

thank you.

Yes i think i may be doing too much re low carb and the cals.

im going to increase cals gradually over next three weeks to circa 1600 a day and yes i think you are right im not eating much fats so i best address that.
