Hi I'm Fliss

I'm not quite a diabetic yet! but have been diagnosed with Reactive Hypoglycemia.

I do hope I can post here :?

I have been reading the threads since I was diagnosed, and found a lot of the symptoms are the same (ish), but I am so confussed about it all. :?

I haven't heard of reactive hypoglycaemia.. i'll have to look into that one as im curious now :)

lots of people post here, mums and dads of kids with diabetes or concerned partners or people just worried about diabetes symptoms so your more than welcome here :)

Hi, I was there 2-3 years ago. My first symptoms would be that I would feel ill after walking for about 40 minutes. My doc send me for all kind of tests for my heart. It wasn't until I had a glucose meter I realized I get very low when I exercise. But the fitter I have been getting the less problems I have with that. It is great though to have the ultimate weapon against high sugar. All it takes is a little walk and I am in the perfect target range. Good luck. Helga

Hi Helga and Ebony.

I only found out about this, because I was seeing my consultant about my underactive thyroid!

I would wake up in the night, sweating but shivering with cold, during the day I have no energy, depressed, bad tempered etc etc.

It was only after I had a 5 hour glucose intolerance test that I found out I had hypoglycemia.

my blood after fasting over night was 4.5, they then when up to 8.9, then down to 4.9, then dropped to 1.9 then back to 2.4, then back to 3.3 and 3.5. It was a good job I was in the hospital having the bloods done I felt so ill.

Because I am on a low Gi diet any way, my consultant as put me on Metformin (sp)

i can see that, they usually go hand in hand i've read and heard..

i was tested a few months back for a thyroid problem as my weight just kept dropping off :o| but it was due to bad control must of been as luckily the results were negative..

Certainly is a good job you were at the hospital. the 1.9 is very low!

I'm not type 2 so i'm not very clear on how metformin works,

but i hope it does work for you :)

may be a handy idea if you don't already to carry around some sort of glucose tablets incase your caught somewhere and feel like you may be going low..

good luck :)
