Hello and thanks for reading. I have a friend who is diabetic, haven't know him for that long. since I know nothing about Diabetes, I don't know what kind of Diabetes he has. He is older say 60 years of age and told me that he injects medication twice a day, for some reason I think its by injection. He went on holiday for about a month and has gained about 10kg since i saw him before he left. The other day he started our conversation by telling me that he has a headache, because of his new medication, his mood seemed fine although he wasnt very committing with his words regarding our previous plans. He seemed a little distracted and then all of a sudden came on to me verbally. I am just wondering could this be to do with side effects of the medication or sugar levels or the like? I am very upset by his behavior, we have been good friends, he had never even looked at be below the eyes before.. I just don't know what to think about this. Any ideas?

Newbie. changing meds and behavior changes?

So it could be just from his meds ?low blood sugar, hypo with adrenalin surge...they are funny little ******* when they do that

I take it you haven't got him on your list as a potential partner LOL ..his out of character behaviour was because of low sugar and he was having a hypo, because he had too much insulin and not enough sugar

sorry, I forgot most people don't know what a hypo is ..his strange behaviour was because of his medication, after he had some sugar/food/sugar drink he would have been fine and back to normal

Tricky one, not straightforward because everybody is different. I expect that if you explained to this person that his behaviour was not acceptable he would be upset that he had behaved inappropriately. Not all old men are randy, some may have decreased libido, some may not, some may be impotent, some may not (diabetes increases the chances of being impotent). I'm 62 and from experience I can can tell you that even though I'm married there are times when I have felt very alone, unwanted, unattractive and unloved. I've never put those feelings down to my medication, but who knows. They haven't made me act inappropriately either, but I have re-assuring friends and partner.
I wouldn't like to comment on sex drive and hypos, when I've had low blood sugar the last thing I thought of was sex, I just felt so awful and very aware of needing sugar, not sex. I might now say something that will cause offense, it's not intended to. We humans are animals and our behaviour is very animal like if we don't follow the rules. Humans will check out potential mates without realising it, visually and even by smell, we are very complex indeed.
If this person's behaviour has suddenly changed may I suggest you remind him of the rules, it could easily be medication, but there are rules. Good luck.

Hi Jack,
not doubting the possibility that low BG or medication is behind character change, I've been diabetic for 17 years. That's a long list of things, hopefully this gentleman just needs a reminder of the rules, whatever is causing his change in behaviour.
