Hello there,
I am new, Ive already been finding a lot of useful recipes and tips on the site! I really hope I am not asking an annoying duplicate question here and apologies if this is a bit basic:

I was diagnosed with GD last week and got started tracking my blood sugar levels on Friday. Now this is maybe going to sound really idiotic but my Diabetes learning curve is pretty much vertical at present, and the nurse went through everything at the speed of light...so here goes...

Should my blood sugar levels react to my new low carb diet immediately, or will it take a few days/weeks to change?

I was asked to call in if I had 3 high readings but actually Ive now had 7 since Saturday. Ive just called in and the nurse said she would ask the Doc to write a prescription for Metformin. Now, I am very happy to take whatever advice I am given by the experts, but I did wonder, maybe the new diet will take a while to kick in? Maybe I should give it more of a chance before I start the tablets? What do you think? Ive been quite good at sticking to the new diet.

Hope you can help put me right here!

Hi. If you currently have excess weight then you may have some insulin resistance and that could take a few weeks to fade. Metformin will help a bit with that. I can't comment on GD and don't know how long it would take diet to affect that variant of diabetes.

Thanks Daibell. Im 35 with a BMI of 27...Basically Im a size 12. I could lose a bit, officially I count as overweight on the charts! I've not particularly thought of myself as overweight before, time for a wake up call maybe. Perhaps the Doc can tell me something when they call back later.
