Hi all! Newbie to the forum! Severe Acute Pancreatitis last year with Necrosis, Pseudocyst, blood transfusions, sepsis and other lovely Hospital bugs all thrown in for good measure! 2 weeks in ICU and not far short of 6 months in hospital! Anyway was on metaform for a month in hospital and then my pancreas seemed to sort itself out and no diabeties!? Regular HB1c checks and 4 weeks ago and all not good! Was back on metaform 2 then 4 a day, which did touch the high blood sugar levels! Some readings 26+ Anyway, now on mixed insulin 2x a day. Started at 6, the. 9 and stabling out at 11 units twice a day! Feeling great that now seems under control and celebrated with a brisk 45 mins walk tonight and got back feeling a little out of breath! Thought I’d check my blood sugars and eeek at 3.8! Quick read on here and 5 Bassets Jelly Babies later, writing this! Long way of saying, a big thanks. The forum is a great resource for me in these early days!
 
Hi Mushroomgaz and welcome! Goodness you have been through the mill. As a result of your pancreatitis are you classed as type 3c? Don’t answer if you don’t want to, I’m just being curious! Glad you got good info from the forum in your hour of need. It really is a great place for info and support.

Mushroomgaz, stick around. As you have already discovered there are lots of people on similar learning curves to yourself, although few will have been through quite as many wringers as you!

I was initially diagnosed as Type3C whist in hospital (again non of the nurses had heard of it) , then ended up on a food tube for a week or so and off metaform. When came off food tube in hospital blood sugars where all fine! So, was told not diabetic, carry on with checking blood sugar levels and stopped this in jan. HB1C Test recently set events off for Insulin intake.

I don’t know much about insulin use in diabetes and I hope someone with more knowledge will come along.
However in all this time have you been advised to modify your diet and have you ever had tests to measure how much insulin your body produces which would help you to decide what type of diabetes you have.
 
Original had dietary advise for the pancreatitis. They were specialist HPB Dieticians, so I really should update them re the diabetes coming back and now being on insulin. Diabetic nurse also putting me in touch with dietician assigned to doctors practice. I’m probably a little confused as although I was mainly told to have a balanced diet, eating little and often, avoiding lots of fats. Now being told to limit carbs and sugar. So, will be reading up more on food.
