Hi everyone! I just want to say thank you firstly for sooooo much info, I've been online and so much I'm reading is completely contradicting and I really haven't know where to start. Basically I'm not diabetic yet but I do have an issue with blood sugars and I have been told I need to change my diet and lose weight otherwise I will be going down the same route as my mum (t2 kidney failure, nerve issues etc etc ), what is happening with me is my body is producing too insulin when I eat a heavy carb sugary meal and then I crash. My gtt came back as staring at 4.5 but ending at 3.2. I've tried every diet going only to lose and gain the same 10lbs, I joined weight watchers just over a week ago, I'm always hungry and had my worse episode of low bs for a long time on Friday, I never want to feel like that again so here I am.

But I'm nervous and need a few questions answered if you guys don't mind helping.

I've read the posts about with the food list etc and they were amazing (thank you) but can I eat oats? Or a seeded gluten free bread? I love making Sunday pancakes or waffles and usually use ground oats about 35g, is this ok for my only carb meal?

Is sugar free jelly ok or not as I seem to not react well to sweetener but I'm ok with xylitol

There was loads but I can't think now lol . Any advise you can give would really help

Oh thank you so much, I have felt so confused and havent know were to begin. I will take look at the link

Hi. Whatever your actual forthcoming diagnosis, do keep the carbs way down. Oats need to be kept low-ish as they are a carb. I have a very small portion (perhaps 20g) as museli with cold milk. Stewing them as in porridge makes then higher-GI and spikes the blood sugar more. I'm afraid making pancakes and waffles may have to take a back seat. We are all so a-tuned to carby food it does take time to adjust to a different food regime. Seeded gluten free bread is fine but in sensible quantity. I do have some bread but a low-GI multi-seed loaf and thin slices etc. Being on insulin I could eat more carbs but it would just make me put on weight as that's what insulin does.

Oh brilliant thank you, I'm honestly don't know where to begin, I've done every diet under the sun but low carb, so really need to get my head I gear lol. I've just ordered a blood tester as I haven't got one and trying to do a menu plan ..... Feeling a little lost though.

Your meter will help you formulate a diet that is suitable for your condition. Well done on ordering one..

All carbs turn to glucose once inside the system, but the worst ones are bread of any sort, rice, pasta, potatoes, flour and cereals of any sort. We also need to be very careful with fruits and milk. The good news is that fats are fine, so you can have butter, cheese, mayonnaise, eggs, cream, good oils and so on. ....... and sugar free jelly is perfectly OK. :)
