Hi,
I've been low carbing since August 1st so early days, but astounding results. Novomix 30 down from 120 units a day to 6 and BG 12 to consistently in the 5's and 4's and I've dropped 5lbs. Feeling more alert and healthy. My question is am I right in using the Novomix 30 as a small correctional dose when my BG creeps into the high 5's and low 6's after food (it's weird that I've started panicking now at the low numbers but not when my BG was in the teens) or should I rely on the Metformin and whatever beta cells I've not destroyed to lower it?
Your thoughts would be gratefully appreciated.

Wow. What a difference in insulin amount and your much lower BG levels. Well done. Can't advise on insulin use, but hopefully someone else here can.

Diagnosed T2 in sept 2013, BS levels 20+. BMI 22, age 59. Then diagnosed T1 / LADA in December. On a LcHf diet taking no insulin or medication, and striving to keep my BS readings to dr Bernstein's recommended 4.6 pre breakfast and 5.6 2hr after eating in order to keep as many insulin making pancreas beta cells as possible for as long as I can.

I don't know anything about insulin, but my gut feeling tells me 120 units is a lot of insulin, and now you've reduced it by 95%?

Well done on this fantastic improvement! Did we read the figures right? 120u reduced to 6u?

Hi,
I used to be on Novomix 30, before I started low carbing though. The answer is, no, you shouldn't use NM30 to correct short-term highs. It contains short and long acting insulin. Using it to correct short-term highs will bring your levels down in the short term and long term.

The only regime that you can correct short term highs with is basal bolus. Most people on this regime use Novorapid (a fast acting insulin) and Lantus (a long acting insulin) separately.

Personally, I wouldn't correct if I were in the high 5s or 6s. Those numbers will not do you any harm whatsoever. Correcting with NM30 at those levels will certainly bring about a hypo.
