Hi All
I am. 41 year old who has been diagnosed with T2 just over a week ago joined the forum then and have been looking around.
I go to see the nurse on Tuesday to see what the plan is re medication or diet. I do have a strong family history - my dad diagnosed T2 30 years ago, my sister gestational then stayed so T2 16 years ago and my mumT2 2 years ago.
I also have an under active thyroid and I am taking Thyroxine, they just upped my dose. I am overweight and really struggle to lose it. However reading the forum the last week I have been cutting down my carbs and changing to wholemeal etc when I do have them so will see what that brings and hopefully the increase in Thyroxine also it will all come together.
I work in the NHS for a GP practice, which I am not sure is a good thing or a bad thing as they have said with my results - 2 x fasting over 12 and HBA1c at 78 - I should have been started in medication straight away but obviously I haven't. However it was the GP who I work for who advised low GI /GL diet and even brought me a book to explain it and a recipe book in for me.
I am sure I will be in touch as I get to grips with what I need to do.
