I have had type 2 for 28 years but find lately sugars are harder to control. Low carb is the way for me to lower my levels but I can never achieve a 5. I take Gliclazide and it helps a bit. My level is generally around 10 in the morning and around 10 tob14 at other times. Any advice gratefully received.

TBH 30 grams is optimal for me but I can rarely stick to that. I can see good results on that but it takes planning! I mostly do 70 grams. I use an app to keep count. I am currently recovering from a spinal op four weeks ago. My sugars have been been very high but settling now. I am now trying to do low carb now. Watch this space.
*No bread/cakes/pastry
No fruit
No grains including oats
But yes to
Fish/chicken/meat
Lots of non starchy veg

Welcome @Haggis44
The pain and stress of your recent operation will have made blood sugar control very difficult, I hope you are recovering well.
You seem to have a good idea of what's needed diet wise, the only suggestion I can think of is that maybe intermittent fasting could help get those numbers down a little quicker.
Are you on steroid meds at all as these can drastically raise BS. What is your weight/BMI? It's possible you may be late onset T1 (LADA). An increased dose of Gliclazide under the instruction of your GP may help but if you are LADA you may eventually need insulin but hopefully my guess is wrong.
