Hi my name is Kevin and I got diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes on Monday.
Still a bit shocked by it all, trying desperately to bring my BG down, I think I have panicked a bit and am expecting it to go down too quickly. I'm now on more medication than I have been in my life and have totally changed my diet, for the better.
I got prescribed Netformin on Monday (2 a day) and when I went back on Friday I got another 3 scripts ( gliclazide, Meter, lancet, test strips, sharps, sharp bin), which was more scary.
My BG was 19.9 yesterday, went down to 12.3 3 hrs after first gliclazide tablet but is now back up to 18.5. Cholesterol is 9.5 and BP 120/75.
I use to be bad for takeaways and beer after working long hours, now I'm trying to follow guidelines but am still confused by carbs, which seems to be a common thread. I cut out as much sugar, salt and fat as possible. Eating wholegrain pasta, bread, rice in smaller quantities (trying to), and alot more vegatables and fruit.
I'd appreciate your wisdom and advice.
Thanks,
Kev.
