Hi to all . This is my first posting on this website forum. I have been getting the emails from the site for a while. I think i registered before but lost my passwords etc. I confirmed my type 2 diabetes in October 2012 after being very suspicious about my urine and being extremely tired after evening meals. I bought a meter and was stunned to get a reading of 22mmols. My mother was also type 2 diabetic. I took myself to the Doctors to get confirmation. Ha Ha.... this took a while ... Compared to what i have read about other people's experiences, i got nothing. I had two fasting blood tests taken 6 weeks apart to get the two separate tests for diabetes confirmation. Like a lot of people i was told not to bother testing myself and that home testing wasn't reliable even though my home test results were the same as the hospital ones. I used to be a very active person and kept my weight in check. However life has dealt me quite a few blows one of which is a severely autistic son of which i am a full time carer. There are others but i think i should find another forum for those.
The point being that over twenty years i have gradually gained weight through comfort eating and lack of aerobic exercise eventually getting to around 24 stones. I did lose a stone automatically around the time i must have flipped over into diabetes. Consequently i think due to shock i put myself on a low carb, low Gl diet, extra exercise and tested regularly. From October 2012 to April 2013 i dropped another 5 stones. I took my HbA1C from 12% to 6.6% with average post prandial readings in the 'safe' 7mmol range. Sounds great doesn't it. Well then i hit a wall. From May to today i've gained back 4 stones and am carb binging. Only recently went back to docs and HAD TO ASK for Metformin as i have researched that it is quite a beneficial drug. After reading a post about others on this forum who sound like me i thought i would actually begin posting. So here i am. I am a type 2 diabetic struggling at the moment.
