Forgot to add most of my meals have a lot of carbs,Rice, bread some type of potatoes but because I've not been testing didn't see them as being the main problem just thought i needed some meds to control my bsThanks for the reply Poohtiggy
Not done much exercise today just been on this forum getting a lot of good info
I understand more today than I've been told from my doctor. It was just the readings after food being high i understand the carb issues and thought it may of been lower.
My diets not been the best a lot of carbs which I'm going to cut out and start tomorrow with my exercise regime!! after my purchase of a meter
ThanksThat sounds good, once you have a meter test before and two hours after aiming for those levels, obviously the higher your first reading the higher the second will be good luck
HiHi and welcome,
Meds are not a miracle cure. Diet is the key, no matter which meds you are on. (your profile says diet only?). Carbs are the culprits in raising BS levels. We all have different tolerance levels to different carbs, but a meter will tell you which ones your body can cope with. Use it to learn. If you keep a food diary and record your before and after levels alongside, patterns will emerge from which you can learn. It may be you can tolerate some carbs in small portions, but you won't know until you test. Clearly those potatoes didn't agree with you. Also, did you have other starchy carbs and possibly gravy with the meal? Gravy is the devil for me personally, as is anything made with flour.
Only bought the meter today was £25 with 20 strips but I'm going back to the doctors this week to try and get the free prescription which as been advisedAre you buying your own strips? If so did you get the SD Codefree as that is by far the cheapest
Think i need to do some more research on my diet ideas!!LOL Yes, you will need a lot of strips initially.
Gravy, peas, carrots, potatoes! No wonder you shot up so much! It is all trial and error. Carrots and peas are quite carby. Cabbage is fine. Test, test, test. If you shoot up, reduce portions or avoid the carby bits then test again until you reach a point where that meal is OK for you. I know I can cope with a spoonful of peas, or 2 new potatoes, or 2 roast spuds, or even 6 or 7 chips, but no more than that. There is a book called Carbs & Cals from Amazon that is excellent for helping you discover how many carbs there are in thousands of foods (also an App). It was my bible when I first started and I still use it now.
