Hi all,

I'm 41and I was diagnosed 4 weeks ago with levels of bs 28.4 and keytones of 5.5,I had all the symptoms and at the time I functioned OK I didn't think I was diabetic, since being diagnosed I have feel as though the injections and the tablets are running and ruining my life I am on 4 injections a day 3 novo rapid and 1 lantus and the endless blood checking especially if I haven't done so for 2 hours before driving is such a chore. Not to mention letting people know I'm diabetic work, dvla, friends and family before I have come to terms with it myself has taken a big effect on my self esteem although the weight loss has counter acted that some what. My blood sugars have been quite good most of the time and have been regimental in what I can and cannot eat/drink my point after such a long post is does it get easier or am I just going have to get used to being taken over by this?

It gets easier! Simply because you feel much, much better and have a lot more energy. And you turn a lot of good practices into good habits.

It CAN get much worse if you neglect it. So, look after yourself. I'm 54 and I've had it 49 years and I'm still well, fit, strong (and fabulous according to the hubs, I might add) so don't get down about it. And why should it damage your self esteem? You didn't do anything to 'deserve it'! You can kick that idea right into touch.
