Hi all, just joined this group so a little information about me.
I'm 71 and have raised blood sugar levels (44 at last test 2 weeks ago )
2018 test result was 43. Changed diet, lost a stone in weight, tested again, result 35.
Ine year ontested again, no change in my diet etc, back up to 42.
Another year and its now 44.
Now wondering if theres another reason for this high reading again.
Do have thryroid cysts which they're keeping an eye on but now see that the thyroid if jot functioning properly can lead to raised sugar levels ‍♀️ Anybody else have this issue ?
I have appt today about my thyroid at hospital so gonna mention this to the dr.
So thats me, hi everyone

Hello @Saltnpepper welcome to the forum
There are many reasons for our glucose levels to rise, stress, pain, poor night's sleep, infections even some medication can prompt our liver to release some of its stored glucose. So yes it is possible that your thyroid cysts are contributing to your raised levels but it is our insulins inability to deal effectively with the glucose (insulin resistance) that is causing your levels to remain higher than they should. In someone who doesn't have insulin resistance the glucose would be taken out of the blood and used for energy no matter where it came from.
Have a look at Joe's "the nutritional thingy" blog it's a great introduction for new members

Hello
Yes I have hypothyroidism specifically Hashimotos disease, then developed type 1 diabetes a few years later. They are both autoimmune diseases and I was told are linked. I was told your body needs to produce the right amount of thyroxine, insulin and cortisol for your endocrine system to function correctly. An endocrinologist will usually deal with all three (thyroid, pancreas and cortisol issues) I hope you have seen an endocrinologist not just a doctor today. However your HbA1c result of 44 is I think still pre diabetic. It would be worth asking an endocrinologist if your thyroid cysts could be effecting this small rise. If you were developing type 1 it usually shoots up pretty quickly, to give you an idea I felt ill for a couple of months, my HbA1c was over 100 You could try a few changes and see if your next test result goes down a bit. I eat gluten free to help with my thyroid issues and it’s also beneficial for lowering blood sugars. Best wishes
