I am Day 25 of the Newcastle diet, 800 calories a day, I've lost 17 lbs I'm atill about 25 lbs short of of my target, i intend to do the full 8 weeks, as hellish as it is. I am now called "souperman" because I'm becoming an expert. However, in a week's time we have a long standing dinner invitation that I cant avoid. I cant expect to a have slimfast and a salad. Is it ok to take a "day out' and eat some meat, potatoes etc or does that upset the whole thing?

The danger is it'll overload your stomach, as you are supposed to re-introduce solid food gradually as your stomach will have shrunk without food for so long. So that could be a problem. Also you have to get back on the wagon the next day, and re-train your stomach again.
Personally, I'd make my excuses, and hold the diet.

Hmmm .... Short of taking your food with you, which probably isn't an option, how about going for damage limitation? I don't know much about the Newcastle diet so my suggestion may be totally wrong..... Veg but not starchy ones and very small amount of meat. From what you've said you're doing extremely well! Good luck with your Newcastle journey ;)

I have just finished week 6. Although I do have the Slimfast shakes for breakfast, I have diet soup at lunch, and then a main meal in the evening of veggies in various forms, especially curry. I have eaten a 'normal' meal on 2 occasions. All seems to be OK. Suggest you can manage a 'normal' meal but keep off the deserts.
