Newcastle Diet..

I keep hearing of the 'Newcastle Diet'! But could somebody please tell me what 'Meal Replacement' drinks, soups..etc. I could buy that are right for someone as myself who has 'Type 2 Diabetes'. e.g. they all seem to be full of sugar...

The original diet used "Optifast" meal replacement shakes, but I believe they're not widely available in the UK. Possibly @Pipp and others can help. You can find details of the diet here:

There are a number of threads about the diet, so if you search it you'll find lots of info and people who have done/are currently doing it.

A lot of this sort of replacement "meals" are not very diabetic friendly as you've discovered!

I haven't done the diet, but ave a look here for brief details which say in the Newcastle University study that Optifast meal replacements and non-starchy vegetables were used. You'll probably get more advice in the morning when people are up and about...

If you are concerned about the content of the meal replacement sachets, you might also consider the low carb high(er) fat diet, which will help you lose weight, reduce your blood sugar levels, and is all real, good, healthy food.

I am type 2 and successfully did the Newcastle Diet using the Asda Shake then the Tesco one. You will be surprised at the effect on your blood sugars even though they are high sugars content. I mixed mine with water not milk. Both are 26g carbs with milk.

Within days of starting the Newcastle Diet my bloods were low enough for me to stop insulin and then subsequently all other meds were stopped. Once I lost the weight (32kgs) I went on a low carb diet. I've now been 1o months with no medication and great blood sugar control.
