Hello Everyone!

I was just diagnosed Sunday and started meds yesterday. Metformin and Glimepiride. I had been doing low carb for a bit before this and was slowly bringing my sugars down but they had been pretty high before based on my HbA1c of 12. The meds seem to be working and my readings seem to be at 10.0 mmol/L at the moment. I’m feeling a little hypoglycemic even though I am no where close to that range. Is this normal?

Yes, it's called a false or fake hypo. Because your body is used to higher levels it'll give you fake hypo symptoms until it gets used to the new lower levels. (An hba1c of 12% corresponds to an average blood sugar of 16.5 so you've got quite a way to go before getting back to normal levels, though 10 is a massive improvement over 16.5).

Hypoglycemia is a potential risk with glimepiride, so you'll need to be careful that your false hypos haven't turned into real ones.
