Hi Tiamai, and welcome!
Someone will be along soon to give you our excellent 'info for newbies'; meanwhile, try to reduce your intake of carbohydrates a bit (bread, potatoes, pasta, rice etc, anything with flour or sugar). It's carbohydrates that turn into glucose in your body and push your blood sugars up.
I was introduced to Metformin in the same way that you are, and had terrible wind and the runs at first, but settled on to them very quickly. I have no trouble now. Some people on here advise taking them with food - ie, in the middle of your meal, and that might help settle your innards.
Those answers are a bit simplistic, but I hope they help for now. Meanwhile, have a good read around on here and on the main site; you'll find lots of good information.
It's normal to feel a bit upset and confused when first dignosed, but don't let it get to you. Lots of us on here are living quite happily, with good control over our diabetes. No reason why you shouldn't too!
