Hi, I was diagnosed about 3 weeks ago (hba1c 7.9), but only managed to get an appointment to see the diabetic nurse yesterday. I stared off eating the starchy foods/NHS diet and was testing with my mums meter. My BG was up (8.9). Started taking Cinnulin PF (600mg per day) & Chromium Picc (800mgs per day) & cut out bread & potato (I don't eat rice or pasta). My carbs are now down to about 80 per day, but calorie intake is down too (between 750-1000 each day). I have lost 8lbs In 3 weeks. I wasn't overweight (5ft 2 9 st 13 - now down to 9st 5). I checked on a website which reckons to maintain my weight I need to eat between 1500-1700 calories per day. I don't want to lose any weight or eat any more carbs. My BG has come down, now reading 6.8-7.8 2 hrs after eating (first bite). I don't feel hungry, but I'm bothered about losing any more weight. I was looking at protein shakes, to make up the calories, but I don't know if that's the right thing to do? I'm just wondering if anyone can help? Also when I saw the nurse yesterday she gave me a meter. I tested myself on my mum's meter and got a reading of 6.8, but when I tested on my meter it came out as 7.9??? This seems to be a big discrepancy, is there a way I can find out which meter is right?
