newly diagnosed- advice please

I think i will cut back in the short term then. maybe a couple of pints a week and really savour them! i am going to brew a nanny state clone, not sure on carbs but has only 26 calories a can is is alcohol free. tastes ok too.
 
I brew real ginger beer and ferment it to the bitter end, then add a tiny amount of sugar to get some fizz in the bottle, sweetening it with an artificial sweetener in the glass. Seems to work.
I don't know if it is possible with real beer - would it become barley wine?
 
Holsten Pils has all the sugar fermented out but still contains 2.6% carbs in the form of maltose or something similar.
