Newly diagnosed and confused

Good afternoon everybody and hope all is as well as can be.
With so much information out there and conflicting advice I was wondering if anyone can help me.
Having been diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes last wednesday, 28/07/2021, the first thing I thought was, What can I eat, also is pasta ok to have.
I've been given Metformin to take and told to exercise more.
I've seem on some websites that grapes are bad but on other sites there are good, the same with honeydew melon.
Also veg that grow above ground, beans, sprouts etc are better than ones that grow below ground like carrots, onions etc.

I know we are all different but if anyone can point me in the right direction with any fruit, veg, meat and cereals I will be extremely grateful, as very confused at the min

Stay safe everybody and thanks in advance for your help

Sorry quick answer as I only have a minute. Take a look at these

Intro to T2 and low carb. https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/blog-entry/the-nutritional-thingy.2330/
All the things I wish I’d been told earlier https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/th...ish-i’d-been-told-at-type-2-diagnosis.173817/

huge amounts of reliable info that’s worked for loads of us. Have a read. Look at the links. Come back and ask questions.

The rubbish about grapes, brown carbs and moderation is from non type 2 or those that are happy to get worse over time and pop another pill.

Hello Mark and welcome! I don't think there's been a single one of us who hasn't felt confused after diagnosis, and I for one found it all a maze! Anything with carbs is the thing to cut down, or in some cases to avoid. Bread, potatoes, rice, pasta, breakfast cereals and as you said underground veg. Small amounts are okay once in a while. Sugar, cakes, pastry, biscuits etc too. But you CAN have cooked breakfasts, butter, cream, cheese, meat, chicken, fish etc which I find more than makes up for it. Look around the forums especially the foodstuff ones. I'm sure others on here will have loads more advise for you :)
