Newly diagnosed but confused

Hi Rod,
Thanks for that mate, there is nothing that I don't like from your post.
Note to self: do a shop.

Thanks for the welcome Kat.

Good luck tomorrow Gem.

Well Gem!
How'd it go? better than mine I hope:grumpy:

Not too bad atall, my first A1c was 5.9% so I'm very happy. My fairly low carb way of eating (very rarely eat bread or pasta) has been maintaining my levels without me even realizing it!!

I had a really bad night last night and had pizza and lots if wine and my fasting bloods this morning were 7.1....hmmm...

Diet really can help, fabulous news!

How is everyone else doing?

you have to be happy with that, you are now in the normal/pre-diabetic range, with a warning 7.1 to not get complacent, because bad numbers are just a few carbs away

Yay! I think I was actually testing myself to see if my body would react and boy did it! Back on my best behavior today.

if you need to get your weight down, that may happen as your insulin resistance improves, though even skinny people can carry too much liver and pancreas fat, the LCHF will help that too

you probably have better than 80% chance of remission, if your betta cells are ok

I think LCHF is a slower way of a Newcastle like diet, the good bg comes first and the weight comes off second

Newcastle diet aims in 8+ weeks to mimic or better the rate of ~80% remission, for surgery T2

You are so knowledgable! How long have you had T2?

And you really recommend the LCHF? I've always avoided bread pasta noodles etc but I've not really done the high fat...I just love steak and salad! Wine is my downfall if I'm honest, I do love a wine!!

this year, but I read a lot and there are good lectures on you tube...some is absolute rubbish too, when you can tell the difference you are on the path :I would keep my protein at RDA levels of 45-60g and adjust my cards and fats to suit

if you eat normal protein and cut down on carbs, you have to top up on fats or have no energy and feel cold
enough fats to top up to around your calorie need..fats don't make you fat,
google .....eat fat lose weight

Hi all,
Have just joined, I am in total shock at the moment having received my latest HbA1c results this morning. Four months ago I was diagnosed with borderline type 2 diabetes with a reading of 43, today it is 63 and I am a little worried about the future. I have just been prescribed Metformin and told I will be on it for the rest of my life, "Wonderful".
What can I say! I try to eat sensibly, but its quite difficult as the food recommended for diabetics can also effect my cholesterol intake as well as blood pressure for which I am also on medication for, not to mention chronic arthritis ("What a bloody wreak:banghead:").

Apart from that the world is hunky Dorey:) sorry for being so negative but that's how I feel at the moment, maybe tomorrow???
Welcome to the forum sorry I am a little late with the welcome. You will by now hopefully have realised that the diagnosis whilst disturbing is not the end of life as we know it but can be the beginning of a better healthier life.

I was diagnosed Mid May this year with a 3 month average of 12.5 (80).

Have managed through diet and a little extra exercise to get my BG readings in non diabetic range 99% of the time, lost nearly 3 stone in the process, so heading in right direction, also had been suffering from high BP & on meds for this, current BP is at the low end of healthy range and hoping to reduce meds in next visit to GP.

Ask anything, gain knowledge and make your own decisions but importantly listen to other users and their experiences, they have certainly helped me.

Good luck for the future.

Hi all,
I am just into my second week LCHF and my BG is hovering at around the 6s and 7s, although this mornings fasting was 5.9 after meal was 6.2.

I have lost 1/2 a stone in a week YEY! and funnily enough I am not always hungry (The fats I know) I have got my next Doctors app in 5 weeks, he is dead against the LCHF diet so I have not told him, will see the test results first then tell him.

I made the Flaxseed and Almond bread recipe from http://www.thelondoner.me/2014/03/mums-low-carb-bread.html it looks like a house brick, weighs about the same but surprisingly it tasted OK, had two thin slices for brekky with the usual fry up.

Thanks also to John for the welcome.

Gem! I am a sucker for Wine also, have cut it out completely during the week (The bottle of Chardonnay in the fridge keeps winking at me every time I open the door:mad:) We'll see who's smiling at weekend when I consign it to my tummy:)
