Type of diabetes
LADA
Treatment type
Insulin
I was diagnosed with LADA (suspected) 3 weeks ago after a very mild case of feeling under the weather and thirsty, ( for about a week). At the time my blood glucose level was 28 and my hba1c was 116. I am now regularly testing by blood and take levemine and novo rapid ( minute doses of 2 nova rapid before meals) . I was being careful with my diet but have found I can eat virtually anything and keep within the target of 5 -9. I even forgot my lunchtime dose recently but my blood levels were around 9. I am
waiting for a gad test return but doesn't this all sound a bit mild and easy for someone with diabetes?

Assuming your weight isn't very high then with those blood sugar levels LADA is very likely. Many like myself went thru tablets first with insulin coming later. You appear to have been started early which isn't a problem but means you don't need many shots; these may need to be increased over the years. As time goes on you may be told about carb counting to adjust your rapid dose to the carbs at each meal. I think what you are finding is that insulin is easier than many realise and I wish my silly GP had agreed to put me on it earlier.

Thanks. So do a lot of people with LADA not use insulin to start with or do some never use it?

you will use insulin when your beta cells can't produce enough insulin, lada is slow onset.
talk to your DR, you may be finding that the background long acting insulin is enough to take the pressure off your pancreas to allow for the small meal doses for now.

the other thing is your background basal insulin could be too high and is working like a bolus..
