Hi all, happy to meet you all. Looks like an amazing community you all have here, and look forward to chatting to you all.

So my daughter was diagnosed type 1 a few months ago, she is doing really well and is doing her own testing and insulin shots already... #prouddaddy...

I recently attended a carb counting seminar at the hospital and am embarking on that course of action now, but again during the seminar the doctor was pushing the insulin pump. I am worried about this as my X-partner and her boyfriend seem to be keen for this, but I'm still unsure about it.

What are the pro's and cons, and if my daughter is doing so well on her own, should we be Changing things up? Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Welcome to the forum.

Understand your concern, 'if it ain't broken'...........

The pro's for a insulin pump are many but there are con's too, but as your daughters diabetes team have suggested one they must think she will benefit in the long-term, hopefully some parents will reply to your thread but in the mean-time why don't you have a look at INPUT, it has loads of information, advice and support for people who are considering changing to pump therapy:

Good luck.

Welcome @ross_dad_of_olivia :)

It sounds like your daughter is doing really well :) If you're unsure about a pump could you ask why it's being advised? What are your daughter's blood sugar results like? Does she have lots of hypos, for example, or high levels sometimes?

I recommend you read as much as you can about pumps, including having a look at the Pump section here. Please ask any questions you want :)

Thanks guys, I've read quite a bit, but can't seem to make my mind up. Just seems silly if she's doing so well already. Her levels are a bit up and down, so her mum advises me, (contact isn't so regular at the moment, got bad after diagnosis) she had a few hypos when they started trying to adjust doses in accordance with her carb intake, but the last week seemed more stable. She is still in her honeymoon period too, so I guess I'll try convince them to leave her be for the time being and hope they take into account my concerns too.

Thanks for your views, and look forward to learning more from here.
