Newly diagnosed & flu jab

I have recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, and must admit I am still in denial to some extent. I still don't really know what lies ahead, and have had a consultation with the diabetic nurse who spent more time telling me what I should eat than anything else.
I have now came down with a fairly heavy dry cough and purcahsed Benylin which has helped. However, on reading the internet, it seems I should consult my pharmasist/doctor for medication.
I am 56 yo male. My HbA1c was at 99, and I do get high blood pressure off and on. I have been prescribed Metaforin which I am takning on increasing doses and Simvastatin for cholesterol.
My better half has said that I should get the flu jab, and that the nurse should have told me this. Question is - doI/should I get the flu jab?
 
Yes do get your flu jab ASAP. Infection can raise your BG levels so it is a wise precaution.

Don't take Benilyn as it is sugar based. I think what you need is Robitussin (auger free) but check with your pharmacist.

Keep asking questions on here as they are a friendly bunch and have a wealth of knowledge.

See if you can get any prescribed for free.
May as well have some benefit from being diabetic.

Good plan, pneumonia vaccine is often offered to diabetics. Worth having even though I am no fan of needles.
 
People with diabetes are always in the 'at risk' group when the blurb for vaccinations comes out each year. I have had the flu shot and the pneumonia shot ( apparently you only need the pneumonia shot once every 5 year's). Personally I think everyone should get them. Why risk a serious virus if you don't have to

I'd get it if I were you.Just had my first ever flu shot and the pneumonia shot yesterday and I was only told I had type 2 last month.I can't fault the NHS on this subject.My nurse told me about them and asked if I'd like a booking,I said how about now during my check up and I got both there and then.Better safe than sorry,but remember the flu one is only covers three types authorities suspect during the coming risk period.So its not a 100% protection but a better chance of avoiding flu.
 
Got the flu jab today, and also another that protects against pneumonia, meningitis (I think) and septicemia. Only need this one once. Now I feel protected - thanks to this forum.
BTW, friend checked my blood sugar today, down to 5.7.
