Newly diagnosed - help please!

Hello there

I was diagnosed with Type 1 three weeks ago and am currently on Novomix 30 twice a day.
I seem to be in the honeymoon period as my readings are starting to fall (which is good!)
However some of my symtoms (recurrent thrush) keep going away and then returning. Is this normal? Have been having good days and bad days (like today where I feeel slightly like I have been run over!)..
I think I was expecting a miracle cure once I had been diagnosed -how long does it take to feel better?

Hi peasmummy, i won't give you any advice but i will say that you've come to probably the best site around. I have had fantastic advice and support since i was diagnosed (Feb 08) so i'm a newbie myself. Read through the site in general for loads of info but it won't be long before you get some really helpful replies

it can take a while to get on a even keel, i was on the same as you and it worked quite well for about a year then my dr changed me to lantus, hope you feel better soon

yes it is normal for the thrush to keep coming and going. Diabetics are more prone to it than your average "Joe Bloggs". It`s due to the increased sugar and yeast in your system. Once you get your b/s`s under control, it will start to decrease in frequency. I suffer with it fron time to time, and i`m male. I`ve found the best cure for it, apart from the usual cream, is the one off dose of Fluconazol, usually a single blue capsule taken orally. You can get it over the counter, but why pay for it, see your Dr. and get it on prescription- Canestan version is expensive, Boots do their own, and is much cheaper- but get a perscription is best. Don`t be embarrised by it, as i say it`s common with diabetics, and it will decrease with control.
