Hi.

I was diagnosed with type 1 on the 13th of March so I'm beginning to learn about Diabetes and my insulin pens. I just had a few questions...

How will I know when my insulin pen has ran out? I know I'm supposed to test it before hand, so If there's not enough insulin inside, will it not dial up to my dosage level?

Also, sometimes when I'm injecting, I feel nothing but other times it can quite hurt. Does that mean I'm doing something wrong? Or just different areas are more sensitive than others?

Thank you all. :)

Hiya
The pens will only dial up the insulin that is left in them so you will know
Some places hurt more than others but do remember to rotate your site's and not to just stick with the one which hurts the least
Hope you are coping ok and are not too overwhelmed by it all

Some pens like the Novonordisk cartridge pen you can see what's left. I don't know about other pens. Yes, some places hurt and others don't 9 times out of 10 my injection is painless but if I hit nerve or small blood vessel I know. You will gradually find out which areas have fewer problems.

Hi @iamBlair as said above your pen wouldn't dial up if there wasn't enough in it. When I was on injections I would use my legs and stomach and only occasionally would it hurt. Hope you're managing ok & welcome along, Abbie x

Hi there. I'm also newly diagnosed. Few months in now and it does get easier and more obvious. Just remember to always have a few pens to to hand or around you. I've completely forgot a few times and it is a hassle! Also I'm still just injecting in my stomach. I inject long acting and short acting on different sides and find it hurts much less when I pinch the bit I'm injecting into and don't look at it. Hope everything is okay. It gets easier.
