Newly diagnosed prediabetes

Hi, I was diagnosed with prediabetes two months ago - borderline with reading at 42 - and will have to go back for another blood test in a few weeks time. The problem I have is that I don't have any weight to lose. I was 8st 3lb at the outset and am now down to 7st 10lb and probably still losing. I feel absolutely fine but am concerned about getting too thin. I've cut out virtually all sweet stuff and switched from white pasta to brown and white rice to brown. Also eating wholemeal or granary bread instead of white when I can. I've upped my exercise - now doing 4 or 5 twenty minute uphill walks a week. I get hungry and run out of ideas of what I can snack on that won't increase my blood sugar levels. Today I've made a cake using Sukrin Gold sugar alternative. Has anyone used this? I know that too much can cause a laxative effect but I wouldn't eat more than one slice a day anyway. Interested to know if anyone has any ideas on how not to lose weight! I also have to watch my cholesterol and triglycerides. I take statins and don't really want to have to up the dose.

Anything with protein and fat will be great for your blood sugar.
So meat, fish, eggs, dairy if you like it.
White and brown carbs are pretty similar and aren't great for your blood sugar whatever the colour.

Whoops! I should have said that I also have to watch my cholesterol and triglycerides. I am on statins but don't really want to have to up the dose. I've just edited my original post.

A an older woman higher levels of cholesterol are thought to be protective.

Not sure the statins will be doing you much good and they are known to elevate blood sugar levels.

For me, all my lipid results vastly improved after cutting the carbs and upping the fats, without statins. I wouldn't be too sure it's dietary fats causing higher cholesterol.

42. Besides answering the question of the meaning of life, the universe and everything, 42 sounds very borderline to me in terms of getting overly concerned about diabetes. Unless there’s something else going on in your testing or your health. Anecdotally, from reading this forum, it seems like there’s some very aggressive diabetes diagnosing going on in the UK. Maybe other places too. My feeling there is that doctors are not doing patients any favors if and when they pre-diagnosis diabetes or anything else prematurely or unnecessarily. People have enough to worry about without that happening.

My GP worried my cholesterol figures would be worse on what he liked to call low carb/HIGH FAT, but in fact my elevated triglycerides went down and only my HDL went up - so not a problem.
Hopefully yours will improve too on a low carb with unprocessed or slightly processed fat and protein.
Although I mainly eat chicken for protein I will also have eggs, cheese, salmon, butter, oily salad dressings, full fat milk and yogurt, and double cream on my low carb cereal (mainly milled flaxseed).

Were you losing weight before the prediabetes diagnosis?

I had lost a little bit but had stabilised at 8st 3lb and then got this diagnosis and down it went. I feel it would be better if I could allow myself some more fat. Going back for another test soon and will need to discuss this with them. Have been wondering whether to try not taking the statins as I know there is a lot of suggestion that they can cause pre diabetes.
