Newly diagnosed t2

Hi, so yesterday I got my diagnosis. The g.p told me he had diagnosed me 3 years ago and asked me why I hadn't been to his clinic sooner. I guess the answer is no one told me. I have been seeing another g.p at the same practice for some time with my b.p cholesterol and lethargy and she has put me on antidepressants.
it turns out the statins that I have been given are the wrong ones given that I am type 2 insulin resistant.
O.k so undiagnosed for 3 years and given wrong medication but I am now on the right track. I am on metformin and have been asked to record my fasting b.m for a week then go back and see the DSN. I have all the equipment and after asking for 1 I have a sharps bin. All sounds o.k so far, what's my problem you might ask, it is simply that I have not been given any guidelines or carb limits or any dietary advice other than be sensible and increase my rice and pasta intake and cut out potatoes.
G.p says he is going to be aggressive with helping me with weight loss and has changed my statin prescription. My cholesterol doesn't read well and my b.p yesterday was through the roof, go figure, can't think why. Sorry for the sarcasm but I thought it daft to expect a normal B.P straight after they dropped the D (diabetes)bomb.
Really what I was looking for is some support and maybe a suggestion of daily carb limits. I hope someone can help.

Hi. I have never heard of a statin that wasn't suitable for diabetes T2. All stains increase blood sugar a bit and many would argue their value anyway. Set yourself a daily carb limit of 150gm to start with; many go lower but it's good start point. Have low-GI carbs when you can and the advice to increase rice and pasta was plain stupid but not a surprise. As for the rest of the diet, proteins are fine and fats are not the bad guys we have been told. If you haven't yet got a glucose meter do get hold of one as it will guide you on which foods affect you most and by how much.

Who are ADEO ltd?. What country are they based in. A Google search for them shows nothing.

Usual diet nonsense There are many threads on the forum about diet. Most seem to be about reduced carb intake. I never eat rice now and seldom .pasta. Bread and potatoes are also bad for me. I am not on any medication so it may be slightly different for you.
The best think to do is use a meter to see what different foods do to your Blood Glucose.

A management consultancy company?
You already started two threads about this.
It was very rude to jump in on the first posting of someone who is clearly very worried.

It will take 3 weeks for the metformin to kick in
As was said what's your blood readings

Have a look at lchf diet that a few of us are doing

HbA1c was almost double what it should be it was 84, my cholesterol is 7.5 and the other cholesterol is off the chart, doctor is really cross that my results weren't followed up

Mine was about 60. It's now 38 and in normal range from about 8 weeks and the 3 mth A1c
IMO I had to cut all grain all grain product. Potato and sugary stuff
Lchf
The only carbs I ate were from vegies
I was put on 1500 SR metformin

Seems odd that the doc would not follow up on a diagnosis. When I was diagnosed, lots of other appointments were triggered...retinal screening, podiatrist, dietician, follow up quarterly clinics etc. Sounds like someone has dropped the ball here

My dad had the same type of diabetes but he didn't take care of himself and ended up on huge doses of insulin. i have some idea about diet but I just wanted them to set some parameters so i had a benchmark to set my diet by. I am in N.E. Lincs and our healthcare leaves a lot to be desired. I am doing some research on fruit sugars. I also have IBS so have to be careful as on a low fibre low veg diet with that. I would have felt better if I had been told that referrals would be made but nothing, just take metformin and do b.m every morning write it in the diary and come back in a week. I feel let down by my g.p and diabetic nurse

I wish my g.p was as good as yours. I have been treated repeatedly for other things most of which are T2 symptoms, you would think a doctor could put 2 and 2 together

OK UK. I would be considering a complaint.
They may have caused damage due to incompetence.
