My g.p showed me on the computer that he had diagnosed me in 2011 and asked me why i hadn't gone to his clinic before. I never got a letter. The only letter i had was for cervical screening nothing about diabetes.
I just hope that I am on the right track, the right pills and just wait for a 2 day course on nutrition at the hospital.

HI We are not a consulting company , we are 2 independent researchers with very strong connections to the diabetes community who have joined together to form ADEO .

We are doing this study due to personal dissatisfaction with the services available to newly diagnosed type 2s.

The aim of the study is to show that having access to a range of diabetes experts (who by the way, are all giving they time for free for this study) can improve out comes for type 2s . This is being done as on line project to allow those who do not have easy access to hospital to be also able to take part.

We will be writing up our work and publishing in scientific journals and then hopefully working with the NHS to commission the programme so that all newly diagnosed type 2s will have free access to the program.

We really are not scammers, just 2 researchers trying to instigate a positive change in the way the Type 2 community is treated when they are 1st diagnosed .

Re jumping on the post of a worried person , the idea is that they would take part in the study and not be so worried . We want to able to give newly diagnosed type 2s the knowledge and the tools to enable then to become their own expert on their diabetes. I am just trying to help where i can .

I too find it inappropriate for someone to be touting for guinea pigs on a board for newly diagnosed members.

I do not have diabetes
Hi, so yesterday I got my diagnosis. The g.p told me he had diagnosed me 3 years ago and asked me why I hadn't been to his clinic sooner. I guess the answer is no one told me. I have been seeing another g.p at the same practice for some time with my b.p cholesterol and lethargy and she has put me on antidepressants.
it turns out the statins that I have been given are the wrong ones given that I am type 2 insulin resistant.
O.k so undiagnosed for 3 years and given wrong medication but I am now on the right track. I am on metformin and have been asked to record my fasting b.m for a week then go back and see the DSN. I have all the equipment and after asking for 1 I have a sharps bin. All sounds o.k so far, what's my problem you might ask, it is simply that I have not been given any guidelines or carb limits or any dietary advice other than be sensible and increase my rice and pasta intake and cut out potatoes.
G.p says he is going to be aggressive with helping me with weight loss and has changed my statin prescription. My cholesterol doesn't read well and my b.p yesterday was through the roof, go figure, can't think why. Sorry for the sarcasm but I thought it daft to expect a normal B.P straight after they dropped the D (diabetes)bomb.
Really what I was looking for is some support and maybe a suggestion of daily carb limits. I hope someone can help.

Hi Jowoo
I am a practice nurse who is just doing a diabetes management course, so I am fairly new to this for other reasons. I just happened to be looking at the website whilst trying to write a 3000 word essay. Anyway one thing I would suggest first, is don't panic, there is a lot to take on board and changes wont happen over night. Hopefully when you see your nurse, you will get more help and advice. As part of my course, I attended some patient education sessions which were run by a DSN and specialist dietician. GP practices are obliged to offer you the chance to attend one of these. Myself, as a nurse I learned lots from it so I would strongly recommend all patients who are newly diagnosed to attend and hopefully there is one locally to you.
Good Luck

I have been put on a waiting list for a 2 day course on diabetic management and nutrition, I just was looking for some tips on what and how much to eat in the interim.

I am not interested in being part of your research, right now I just want to come to terms with my diagnosis and new diet restrictions. Please stop posting on this thread

Jowoo. I have never been on the course. But I think most of the advice you get here will be different than the course. A lot of us use low carb high fat or LCHF. Personally I think it really means low carb sufficient fat for your calorific requirement. My HbA1c was only 67 when diagnosed in February. By June it was 38. I'm sure it was the reduction in carbs. I know I bang on about this a bit but diet control has been so effective 2 doctors have pronounced me cured, I'm not but hopefully can keep sugars at normal levels through diet alone.
I think the Fear can be used as a tool.
