After a second blood test I have been diagnosed with Type 2. Apparently I am only just in the range. Is it possible, with careful diet to get out of the range of diabetes or do I have it for life now?

Yes of course it is. If just outside it shouldn't take you too long. Good Luck

Welcome Brian
To answer your question, yes you can get out of the diabetic range and unfortunately yes you will always have T2.
I keep my blood sugar at non diabetic levels by strictly controlling the amount of carbs in my diet. If I were to relax my diet and allow myself more carbs, my blood sugar would rise again.
Its all about the carbs. Have a look at the link for the Nutritional thingy at the bottom of my post

Hi Brian
I was very far over when diagnosed. 49 is the threshold and I was very, very far into three figures. I too over time managed to get my blood sugar to the "normal range", i.e. below 42 mainly through low carb diet but also some other lifestyle changes. I've summarised my experience - see the link below - perhaps it may be of interest to you.

Hello and welcome @Brian Redcar

Merry Christmas- although if you are like many you will not be feeling very merry so soon after a diagnosis. If you are just in the range you may well be able to bring your levels down to non-diabetic levels by reducing your carb intake. I believe like @catinahat that you will always have diabetes - that is you won't be able to go back to a place were you an have unrestricted carbs but you can certainly aim for remission- no symptoms.

I recommend that you get a meter and start testing. The meter is the tool that will let you know the effect different foods have on your levels. This information allows you to make decisions about what you eat.

Good luck and welcome

How bad are carbs for T2 diabetes? I absolutely love carbs and am on the cusp on T2 :(

They are the very thing that causes us issues unfortunately.
See the advice above and take a read of https://www.dietdoctor.com/diabetes as a starting point and if you can see the links in my signature below (website not app I think) in red there’s lots more info there.
