Hi ive just been told I've developed type 2 diabetes, the nurse said that I need to lose weight and will be tested again in 3 months, im worried as I've not been put on any medication and no mention of testing my blood, I have all symptoms, frequent urination, really thirsty, dry mouth, blurred vision, and I've read these are the symptoms of high blood sugars, so surely I should get this down and not wait for 3 months, im really anxious about this.

Hi @Natz12 .

Looks like a poor DX (Diagnosis) meeting.
Plenty on here had them.

Was their no test of your bloods ?

Bad news to get, shook me
BUT...best move you've made is finding this Forum.

First up, if you didn't know type 2 (T2D) are sensitive to Carbs.

You'll have heard it's sugar, but a lot of the food we eat turn into sugar in our bodies...carbs.

Secondly, talking about checking your blood, best tool fir me, trying to manage this disease was a Meter.

& Thirdly,
this, although a supposedly progressive disease, does move slowly it seems

So the best you can do is read up on what others have done to improve

Consider limiting the amount of carbs in each meal.

And Avoid
Pasta
Potatoes
Rice
As much as possible while you find a T2D friendly diet that suits you.

Many go low carb higher fat LCHF.
Some go KETO

Both terms you'll hear a lot of.

Some diet as vegetarians or vegans
Others choose a more carnivore way to manage their diet.

Search forum and find the style + foods you might prefer to eat.

Diet doctor was a huge help for me when I started

Nice clear guide for alternative choices
Low is best, higher to be avoided if possible.

Invest in a meter and measure your blood at
Waking
Before a meal
& 2 hours after.

@JoKalsbeek made a very good post explaining this for newcomers.

.. and along with the excellent @jjraak post, lose that excess weight and get moving.

Very little fruit, NO bananas, pineapple, peaches etc etc, no fruit drinks, no soft drinks, no cakes, no chocolates (save for 85% + dark).

Good catch, @Mike d

Eat so little of those, ( just berries ) I forgot about fruit...:bag:

I would add @Natz12 , where I make it sound like I had this sorted day one, that was far from the case.

Others may have, but i dipped a toe in the water, ate how & what others suggested,
measure my bloods, and it seemed to work.
So much so, I dipped another toe in until I was happy it was working for me too.

That's why I asked about blood test.

If you have had one, it's important that you not only get to know your HBA1c level that marks the diabetic range, but also get to see the other levels.

My blood test HBA1c, was 57, with bad blood scores. But that blood test scores gave me that line in the sand, and allowed to measure my progress

8 months in my HBA1c said my T2D was normal 40. But my blood scores were now all at optimal or very close to it.

You'll hear it often, because it's true,

It's not a sprint, it's a Marathon.
And we are all individuals, some have more then just this one ailment, so fixing it, isn't necessarily a 'One Size Fits All'.

But I have confidence here, You took the time to find AND post into the forum here

That says you are taking note of your health and are willing to DO something about it, to help yourself

As said, the best thing you can do is take the time to read others posts and learn how they managed to control their diabetes through diet.

Look under people's posts, at some of the signatures, the tales of successful loss of weight & improving HBA1c levels.

All first hand accounts of others, who just like you.
Were once sat there, worried & forlorn after their DX.

Proof there IS always hope, if we're willing to listen & learn.

You have made a good start, the only way is up from here
