I had a blood test on the 27th October to see if there was anything causing my tiredness. Everything came back normal apart from my HbA1C which was 50. They said I had to have it redone 3 weeks later so had it done again yesterday 23rd November. It’s come back as 50 again (which surely it was going to with the lifespan of the red blood cells etc…?)
The receptionist said that I have to speak to the diabetic nurse but the first available appointment they can give me isn’t till the 13th December!!!
This feels too long to wait not knowing anything? Is this normal?
Welcome @HannahP88
An HbA1c of 47 and over gets you a diagnosis of T2, your result of 50 is only just into the diabetic range. A few tweeks to your diet should get you back to normal numbers fairly quickly.
The reason they do two hba1c tests fairly close together is simply to check that your first test was accurate and to confirm your diagnosis.
Have a look at the link to the nutritional thingy below my post, it will give you a good start to put things right
Welcome to the club no one wants to join. The fortunate part is that you have found this forum. This place was life changing for me after my diagnosis and provided me with a low of information, advice and support.
As @catinahat said you are on the low side of the diabetic range so the odds are good that you can turn it around my making some changes to your diet.
I really recommend that you get a meter as your first step. A meter will allow you to get some information immediately and allow you to see the effect different foods have on your levels. This allows you to make choices.
The link that catinahat pointed you to is very helpful and I have others in my signature block that may also help.
It may feel very overwhelming at first but I promise that it will get better.
