Hi Vicky and welcome,
It is a shock, but look on it as a wake up call to change your lifestyle.
There are plenty of things you can eat and these include fresh meat, fish, eggs, cheese in moderation, bacon, green veggies, salads, tomatoes, mushrooms, plain yogurt, berries. Swap your white bread for a low carb bread that is seeded. (I eat one slice of Hovis Seed Sensations - 14g carbs per slice) I cut my carbs, ditched low fat plastic spreads and all low fat products, returned to butter, mayonnaise, full yogurts, I ditched all breakfast cereals.
Yesterday I had
Breakfast. Full fat Greek yogurt with a few strawberries thrown in. 2 mugs of tea with a dash of skimmed milk (I don't like creamy tea)
Lunch. Tinned salmon, cherry toms, cheese, mayo, one slice Hovis with butter. Mug of tea as above.
Tea. Griddled haddock, loads of mushrooms cooked in butter, 2 boiled potatoes (small ones with butter), garden peas, small glass red wine.
I take 2 walks a day, 20 to 30 minutes each.
Since February I have lost 3stones 7lbs which is 27% of my weight. I am now a slim jim at target weight. My blood sugars are well controlled.
With some changes, you can stop yourself becoming diabetic. Good luck.
