Hi guys, I'm just 24 diagnosed with type 2 a year back.Being sportsman, almost active throughout the day.Had a severe chicken pox few months back and went really down, few months after recovery thought of losing weight rapidly and was thirsty all day,all of a sudden thought of checking blood sugar level and shockingly it was 255 after 2 hours of breakfast, then took hba1c, results were 10.6%.Done with c-petite - 1.32 and thankfully GAD antibody was in favor of me.Initially took just 8 units of insulin shots in morning and night for 3 months and hba1c was 5.7, then changed to oral treatment, took metformin 1000 mg/day for 3 months and hba1c was 5.5.Then reduced 500 mg/day for next months and hba1c was 6.2, now currently taking 250 ms/day for a month.
Some used to say, i got diabetes as side effect of chickenpox, and it may get off in couple of years.... is that true?...whatever, i'm more stronger than diabetes. Will keep fighting

Keep fighting to protect your beta (insulin making) cells! Your story reads like a type 1 story apart from the happy ending where you are not needing extra insulin. I hope you can use this forum to get clued up about ways to get off diabetic medication via diet or at least to get informed about Metformin.

I have never heard of diabetes being a side effect of chicken pox. Although, I have heard it may be as a consequence of a viral infection.
I have given up seeking the answer to the question "why?" and focus on managing it now I have it as that is what I can change.
Looks like that is your main focus. Good on ya!
