Hi, I have been diagnosed as type 2 diabetic and was started on Metformin. However after taking these for about 3 weeks i was still finding that i felt sick and had no energy. Phone call to doctor and he changed me onto the slow release metformin. I still feel sick but my question is, i wasnt given a test kit, so my mum bought me one so i could see what my sugar levels were when feeling sicky. I have found that this morning before breakfast my levels were 8.6. Had breakfast grilled bacon roll and took metformin SR 2 hours after eating my levels were 9.1 do you think that the metformin isnt really working for me as i havent had 1 result between 4-7. Thanks.

Hi @LianneT and welcome to the forums.

Great move on getting a glucose meter, it will tell you a lot about your condition.

Metformin works by limiting the glucose that your liver releases. Its effect will (probably) be limited if you don't take steps to change your diet. Have you reduced your carbohydrate intake in way since diagnosis?
