Hi everyone new to this diabetes forum and diabetes in general, I was diagnosed with type 1 at the start of February this year!

Was just wonder about how often is acceptable for a treat like a McDonald’s say, cannot stop the craving lol

Also being checked for signs of Maculopathy changes tomorrow for the second time, I use a freestyle Libre 2 and have the settings between 4 mmol and 10 mmol and I’m 94% in target what is the likely that I will go slightly blind in the future?

I am terrified

Ryan

Hi @Rleady1357, welcome.
I wasn't aware we weren't supposed to have McDonalds I would say we can have McDonald's/other treats as much as the rest of the population, everything in moderation
94% in target is really good, much better than I get. I'm 23 years in and my eyes are still ok if that makes you feel any better. Making sure you go to your yearly screenings will help identify any problems early on, there's no need to be terrified, promise.

Hi. Sounds like you are doing the right things and the Libre is helping you to have good control. You can have McDonalds fairly often as long as you 'Bolus' for it and don't gain weight thru the carbs. With good control it's unlikely you will suffer any noticeable long-term eyesight damage.

Hi @sleepster thanks for the reply!!

I know we can have the McDonald’s but I’m struggling with moderation as I went 4 times last week

I am 25 myself and it’s still a big shock to my system at the moment

I’ve been screened every 3 months so far I’m hoping tomorrow will be better

Maybe 4 times is a little excessive, I wouldn't worry unless it's 4 times a week, every week. The craving might be satisfied soon and then you can go a bit less. No judgement from me
Good luck tomorrow, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hi have just gotten my letter back and it’s another check up in 3 months

Perhaps a burger without the bun is a good option.
Although 94% in target is much better than the average, many T1's find they can improve time inside target by cutting carbs so a to have a much smaller bolus - meaning that they are much less likely to over or under calculate it.
