Hi all,

I was told I had type 2 diabetes about 3 months ago. Needless to say it jolted me into to some big changes and I have made many changes to my diet and exercise routine. I have lost about 10kg and maintained that for the last 4 weeks or so and I am doing at least 3) mins exercise per day. I am taking 4 readings per day first thing in the morning, before lunch, 2 hours after lunch then again 2 hours after dinner. I am on no medication but am due to see my doctor next week to review my progress.

Over the 3 month period my blood sugar readings have average 6.5. Never higher than 8.5 and never lower than 5.2. I know that is higher than would be OK for someone without diabetes but not sure what I should be aiming for with diabetes. Would someone with 6.5 readings typically be advised to go on to medication or is this a level that is sustainable?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Welcome to the forum.

Sounds like you have the reigns on this..
Do you know what your HbA1c was when diagnosed?

It was quite high but the number I recall (11) does not seem to make sense when I read other numbers in here. I am not sure what that 11 referred to?

Although 8.5 is higher than I would like (8.0)mmol) is my target maximum BG reading. Your figures look good in general so its unlikely that you could do much better with medication. Since when you have 3 months of numbers like those your HbA1C will probably be in either the pre-diabetic or even the non-diabetic region.

So well done, keep it up!
