Cheese and Tories,
There are lots of recipes for low carb baking, so you don't have to go without - but watch the amount of any artificial sweetener as it seems vastly over used and makes things taste sickly sweet. I usually start at 1/4 the suggested amount and often find that is fine for my tastes.
If really pressed to have something I don't want to eat I accept and then just put it down and leave it.
I have to spend 40+ hrs per week with these people but birthday boy kept saying “I know you’re being good but just have a little bit.” He knows I have type 2 but doesn’t seem to understand that my body can’t handle sugar and carbs properly. It wasn’t even great cake. It was probably 50/50 sponge and buttercream. I’ve never been keen on buttercream. I find it too often a bit slimy and sickly sweet.

Yech - that would have been left on a windowsill or other out of the way place if it was me.

It's so annoying when people think they are luring you into "naughty but nice" and you are being "good". Maybe a little one-to-one chat might help him realise he's actually trying to harm you. It's the same as those people who keep nagging you to "have a drink" (alcohol) when you are driving or else taking medication that doesn't like alcohol. Be firm. Or do as Resurgam suggests.

My guests brought a sweet, sticky, fizzy pink wine with them as it was "light and fruity".
discreetly, I poured my glass into the flower bed where I'm sure it did more good than it would have done in me

Cheese and Tories,
Dinner last night was a bowl of all-bran with a little milk. I couldn't be bothered to cook, I had one portion left from the box and I thought it would help with.......evacuations. The spike was from 5.2 to 9.3 after 1hr then 9.2 after a further 30 mins then 8.8 at the 2hr mark. Still 7.3 just now and my vision has been a bit blurry this morning.

All-bran is definitely one for me to avoid. That much is clear. Is the blurred vision going to be from the spike or am I reading too much into it? I didn't get the best night's sleep and I am a bit tired today. Roll on Monday when my new mattress arrives.

Cheese and Tories,
Had my second HbA1c test on 2nd December and it was 39, down from 50 in June, I have lost 4 stone in weight and drastically changed my diet but haven't really exercised much. Would that push the level further down or is diet the main thing?

Diet is the main thing.
You cannot conquer T2 by exercise alone. Though you could find you feel well enough to try some exercise, now that you have achieved such a great result and lost weight. Well done.

Cheese and Tories,
Thanks Pipp. So 39 is considered good? I had hoped for lower given I've not had chips, crisps, chocolate etc since June and I think in total I've had 2 cakes and 3 or 4 biscuits.

39 is below the level even for pre-diabetes. Yes, it is good, non-diabetic score.
So celebrate. Though you need to consider how you are going to maintain that. Lots of members enjoy low carb versions of treats like cakes, biscuits and chocolate, whilst maintaining good control of blood glucose levels.
Have a look at the threads in
to get some ideas.

Cheese and Tories,
Got my third Hba1c results this morning and it was 35 so quite pleased. I'm not stupid enough to think "I'm cured!" but at the same time the question I'm asking myself is "so the average is good but what about the extremes either side, what are they like?" Am I thinking to much about this or is there something to that?

If you are sticking to mostly low carb there probably aren't too many, but you might want to treat yourself to a cgm just to check occasionally.
The first from libre is free, but each 2 week one after that is about £50.
I use one when on holiday for example where im not in control of my food.
Just an idea

Hi Everyone,
First post here. I have not been diagnosed as Type 2 (yet) but on a visit to my cardiologist he said " you are diabetic" This based on my telling him my A1C was 6.7. I am waiting a few more weeks to do a second blood test to see what those numbers are and I'll go based on that. His advice, 30 minute walk most days, healthy diet and perhaps a visit to a dietician. All sound advice. I'll take it to heart (so to speak) and wake up to a new reality.
