Newly diagnosed

Hello, I was told in August last year that my hba1c was raised at 43, and so I improved my diet, lost weight, tried to get more active etc, but my hba1c has risen to 81 despite a significant weight loss. My 2 youngest sons have t1D so I suspected LADA. The DSN at the surgery told me it was impossible, so I had to fight to get tested but the results came back high antibodies and I was diagnosed on Wednesday.
I think my surgery have never come across LADA before so they don't know what to do with me.
I am waiting for a prescription and for a referral to the DSN/ adult diabetes clinic at the hospital.
It's all so lackadaisical I can't get my head round it.
Presumably they think there's no rush because I'm not in DKA.
My fasting bg is 12.0 every morning, up from 10.0 just last week. So it is obviously progressing (I'm also on the maximum dose of Metformin), but it seems I'm the only one concerned about treating me!!

Really sorry to hear this.

I don’t know your financial or physical situation but it costs me around £200 to see a private endocrinologist in London. I find the 50 minuets of consultation in a relaxed environment worth it. If you’d like a recommendation I’m happy to give names of both doctors and private testing clinics

Hi I was in a similar situation to you, waiting for the initial referral appointment to come through. While the nurse at my gp’s continued to support me while I waited for the hospital appointment she had to leave me on the Gliclazide. I was initially given an appointment for 8 weeks after the referral, but due to location I phoned up and was lucky to be given a cancellation appointment 3 weeks earlier I am now on daily long acting insulin with a cgm. I have weekly calls with the DSN and for now it’s just a waiting game while my pancreas slowly stops producing insulin. Good luck

P.s. my morning readings were like yours and I just tried to reduce carb intake and watch for any symptoms of DKA. My initial HbA1c was 123 and I am 60 so a late diagnosis for me although my father was type 1
