Newly Diagnosed

Hello to everyone on here, i thought i would just say hi and introduce myself as this seems to be a pretty supportive and well established forum. I was diagnosed with type 2 on Jan 20 of this year. After a routine blood test for high blood pressure i had a blood sugar of 22.3.My surgery started me on medication straightaway. I was a bit in shock. Everyone kept asking about symptoms but i felt fine or thought i did. All those little power naps i had make sense now.And aren't we all encouraged to drink more water each day? It's only since I've been diagnosed that i notice how much less I'm drinking.
I find it kind of ironic in a way as i had not led a blameless life and spent large parts of my 20's and 30's managing and indeed wanting to abuse my body with various, sometimes illegal substances. However, over the last eight years i have really sorted myself out and now neither drink nor smoke. This has all been achieved with the support of a wonderful and very tolerant partner who,the day after i was diagnosed got up early in the morning and emptied our cupboards and fridge of all the stuff i really could and should no longer eat. Our diet has radically changed and i feel terrific. I make a point of walking each day to the paper shop, going the long way round even in all the ice and snow.I have lost weight and intend to lose more.
I read another post on here last night and agree that my diabetes is part of who i am ,not all of me. I am a whole lot of other things ,as we all are,but sharing this with you has been quite cathartic.
Thanks for reading and I'm sure you will see me again on here from time to time.

Hello

I have been diagnosed today [Type 2] in shock. I have felt unwell over the past few years, however previous tests inconclusive. Not this time. Combined with raised cholesterol and raised triglycides my blood results naff. I work as a nurse in Theatre and had been complaining of nausea and palpitations along with feeling tired, I wondered about Thyroid problems, however, an anaesthetist took my pulse and recommended I see my GP. So began the saga; I have controlled AF [not bad] I have high cholesterol [the bad LDL and low good HDL]. Oh b----r I thought. This seems like a nice site so here I am, shocked of this Parish! Any advice would be gratefully recieved. Please forgive me if I stumble around the site [not just down to blurred vision!] I have a reputation for losing things on the computer. So my posts may reflect this talent, here today gone for the next three weeks.

Hi Caradaro and welcome to the forum.
Your best bet is to have a good read around the boards and then ask any questions you may have. Nothing is classed as silly. We have all been there and know that diagnosis is a shock to the system. Good blood sugar readings is the key to control and I hope we can help you.
Have you been given any dietary advice and provided with a meter and test strips?
There are some very experienced people on here that will try and steer you in the right direction.
Regards, Catherine.

They didn't tell you but the legal substances are far worse for you. Wanna score some McDougall's white, man?

Very common, "diabetic dyslipidemia", also high BP.

Will be interesting to see what you are told as a fellow Medical Professional, and whether it differs from what us grunts are told.
