Hi All

Been diagnosed Type 2 diabetic just over a month ago. I have been testing myself every day before breakfast and my average for the last month has been 7.3 with highs of 8.9 and lows of 5.8 are these swings normal? Is there any good time to test or doesn't it matter what time. I have also beentesting myself 1 and 2 hours after breakfast. Is this a good rule or am I wasting my time?

I have lost around a stone since the beginning of the year but still need to lose a couple more. My exercise routine is not up to speed yet but lead a fairly active life.

Rude people! Not being able to do the things I want to do.
Test when you get up,before you eat.then test two hours after eating to see what effect that meal had on you.Keep a food diary for at least a week with tests before and two hours after meals and what you actually eat.
The highs in the morning could be 'dawn phenomenon,' where the liver dumps glucose ready for the day's activity.

Thanks for the info, I work shifts so my get out of bed time varies considerably week to week, sometimes I'm up at 4am!! I'll try the testing regime you suggest and keep an eye on it.

Shifts can be difficult!!Interesting to note if your BG levels are high at 4am though or are they low?
