Hello everyone,

Newly diagnosed last week with type 2, i`ve been put on metformin 500mg twice a day and also simvastatin to lower my cholesterol, which i was told was too high 5.7.
I hope somebody can give me some advice on whether its normal to feel so exhausted, and not have any energy, since i`ve been on the tablets i`ve felt knackered, and was wondering how long before you start to feel okay again.
This is a great site by the way, really informative, cheers for any advice you can give :D

hya liz, and welcome to the forum,
im actually type 1 but im sure one of our type 2s will be along soon to help you, while your blood sugars are high feeling awfull is quite normal though and should start and go when u have better control :D

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Metformin is not known for causing exhaustion. It is more likely to be your Diabetes that is the cause. Maybe your Bg numbers are elevated ? That could cause tiredness etc.

If you are at all concerned discuss with your GP.

Ken.

Hiya liz
Yes it could be the diabetes that's making you feel exhausted. It could also be that you are coping wih something new and shocking.
It isn't likely to be Metformin, especially if you have escaped the dreaded "tummy grumblies" which it often does cause.
You should find you begin to feel better as soon as your blood glucose comes under control.
What dietary/ lifestyle advice have you been given? Metformin needs some help htere. what blood readings have you had?
Read through the forum and you will probably discover what changes you will need to make and which will suit you best. Each of us has to find our own road.
Don't be afraid to ask. someone will always come along to help.
