I was diagnosed type 2 last December and am not yet on any medication. However, I find that even though I have an extremely healthy diet, I am constantly tired. I mean, really exhausted by the middle of the afternoon which is making me emotional too by early evening. Is this normal and what should I be doing about it?

Never been told to or what it entails. Got the diagnosis, saw the nurse for the foot check etc and given a diet leaflet. Then said to go back for follow up which I will be going to on 25th this month.

Hi @Smokijojo and welcome to the forum. What do you mean by an extremely healthy diet? Is it the one from the diet leaflet given to you by the nurse?
A lot of the people on this forum are dubious about the NHS diet advice and take a Low Carbohydrate High Fat approach to eating.

I meant I eat fresh food etc and not a lot of junk... am just feeling a little overwhelmed and not getting any support. Have seen the nurse who gave me a booklet and told see you in a few weeks and see I you are diet controlling it.

@Smokijojo When I was diagnosed I wasn't given much advice either. Just told to avoid sugar and sweet things, eat 5 portions of fruit and veg a day, and keep portions no bigger than my fist. The problem is that carbohydrates like pasta, rice, potatoes and bread turn to sugar in our bodies, so aren't good for diabetics. Fruit and some veg especially root vegetables also have high levels of sugar. If you are eating these as 'healthy' you might well be making things worse, and diabetes can make you tired.

A lot of us on here, including me, follow a LCHF approach, avoiding or limiting carbohydrates as much as possible, and eating more fats like cream, cheese and butter to compensate. It has worked for me, my BG levels (and weight) has reduced and I feel a lot better.

The NHS really has address this so many people are left confused and unsupported when diagnosed. This site is fantastic I have only been registered here a short while and have already had great support from members and @daisy1 who sent me great information I will try and tag her for you (I not too good at technology these days). Unless anyone else here knows how to do it?

@Janspice To tag someone just put a @ before their username as I have with yours, then they get a notification that they have been tagged on the thread.

Thanks kind of you, I used to sell sofeware and had two mobile phones and desk phone, when I quit work to care for my daughter I realised the luxury of not being attached to a phone or laptop and have got left behind now!)
