Hi guys, its my first post so i'll just give you a quick idea about me, i'm 21 live near Blackpool in lancashire and was diagnosed as a type 1 about a month ago, when i went to me GP i had a blood glucose level of 33 but i've now managed to get a good grip on my levels and i am alot better now, i am a big adrenaline junky, but have been told scuba diving sky diving and other things along that line are out of the question because alot of places wont insure you, are there any companies that are happy to take diabetics or aimed at us, also i am a keen sportsman is there anywhere that can help with training specifically for diabetics as the gyms i frequent now seem to have a limited knowledge of my new condition. Thanks in advance :D

On the subject of insurance, contact Diabetes UK. they are good at sorting things like that.
As a young T1 diabetic, I would recommend you read Dr. Bernstein's diabetes solution.
His methods are regarded as contravesial by the medical establishment, but he's a lifelong diabetic himself and the method works. ( the standard method of control advocated by NHS usually does only partially) You have many years ahead to need your health. The better you keep control, the less likely you are to have problems later.

Hi Paul87.

You stated:

First of all there are very few if any sports that will be restricted. We have many members who partake of the sports you mention and even more extreme sports. They all get insured somewhere, maybe at a premium. I hope they will respond to your post ?

also i am a keen sportsman is there anywhere that can help with training specifically for diabetics as the gyms i frequent now seem to have a limited knowledge of my new condition.

Take a look at this site which has a section covering all sports and is aimed specifically at Diabetics. Some good information until one of our fitter members gets up ???

BTW, welcome to the forum. Take a good look around and ask questions when you are ready.
