Hey all,
I'm 19 and still quite new to everything, two weeks ago now I was diagnosed with Type 1 and it came as a shock to me from as I was experiencing excessive thirst and frequently going to the toilet since December last year. Didn't think too much of it at first but it got to the point about a month ago where I was constantly drinking water and using the toilet, had no other symptoms, so I made an appointment with my GP and had a fasting blood test which showed that my glucose levels were high.
Having only started the whole insulin injection process two weeks ago, my diabetic nurse had given me a blood testing kit and shown me what to do and what everything meant. I was given Levemir and NovoRapid flex pens and have been told to take 8 units of Levemir twice a day (One at morning and one at night) and between 2-4 units of NovoRapid before meals. The only problem I have now is I get a high glucose reading before I go to bed (highest being 22.2 mmol/L) and then when I wake up its normally quite low (between 2.3-5 mmol/L). It steadily tends to go up during the day but I have cut down with sugar A LOT! I have seen a dietitian but they said that my diet is good and nothing drastically needs to change at the moment since I eat a lot of fruit and veg when I can, don't have sugary drinks... only diet drinks or water! And I don't add sugar to teas, coffees or breakfast cereals. They were concerned that I hadn't eaten enough in the past because I was loosing weight (about 49kg at the moment).
I was just wondering if anyone has had a similar situation where they have high sugar levels at night and it drops low in the mornings? And I'm sorry for the long paragraphs
