Apparently no one can explain how exercise works.... researchers are unravelling the secrets of exercise by analyzing blood samples taken minutes after runners crossed the Boston Marathon finish line. It could lead to ways of improving athletic performance or treating disease.....

Personally, I have to exercise several times a day just for peace of mind... sure it works better with some 'belt n braces' approach... 8)
 
Not quite sure what you mean about the belt and braces remark, but when I used to go to the gym regularly - two to three times a week - I always felt so much better for it. Now with my bad back I'm not able, just manage to keep on top of my general housework. :(
